Tania Canteli (Spanish, born in 1979)
Tania Canteli is a self-taught contemporary painter and fashion illustrator working primarily in multi-layered abstracts of acrylic on canvas and watercolor.
Born in Northern Spain, her paintings pay homage to the seashore landscapes of her homeland. Cubism and Post-Impressionism made an impression on her at a young age, and Tania has developed a preference for a bright and colorful palette.
During her college years, she traveled through Europe, moving later on to New York City to pursue studies and a career as a Fashion Designer. The textures found in textiles, the composition of modern architecture, and a new discovery of contemporary art, helped her transition toward expressionist abstraction.
“I have a fascination for abstraction. In my paintings, I try to create a sense of balance and harmony through the use of contrasting colors and blur. I hope that the viewer can experience the painting with feelings that change over time, being these open-ended art pieces that would look different depending on each person’s life experience".
Her formal education includes a Business degree from Universidad de Oviedo (Spain), Fashion Design F.I.T. NYC, and a Masters of Education; her professional background has centered on both Fashion Design and teaching. She exhibits her work in local galleries and is also a member of The Fine Art Collective North America. She is located in the Hudson Valley, New York (USA).
